    My message was supposedly from Bendigo Bank saying that access to my e-banking has been suspended and to click on a link to restore.

    So called Bendigo Bank, saying my internet banking was suspended, left a link to access to sort problem out. Do not touch the link. This message came through at 2 am in the morning. Contact your own bank, give them the link information and phone number, your bank has their own internal fraud squad.

    I also received an SMS from this mobile number, claiming to be from Bendigo Bank, stating they were suspending my e-banking ability and to click on a link to rectify. I don't have an A/C with Bendigo Bank. Warning: the URL link looks awfully convincing.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
