    I have the exactly same issue as yours, I even called to this number and they pretended PayPal staff, they can trace my account information by verifying with my email and Code sent via SMS. They could truly me the registered address and phone number. When I told them I didn't have any card linked to my PayPal account, they kept asking the same question and sounded like I am the hacker! Also, they didn’t believe me when I told them I don’t use debit card nor credit card in Australia!

    While they asked to check our card number and I checked my bank account at the same time, they even had no patience to wait for my checking. They then tried to attempt hacking to your email like gmail account by sending a login request from India. Before seeing your post, I even couldn’t find any information with this number and was really thought if it is the real number from PayPal! And now I gotta reset all the passwords!!

    I received an SMS message telling me I had approved a payment from PayPal for $1850 and if I didn't I should call this number. Doesn't look like anything has come out of my account so it must be a scam. It said to call +61-1800959498 to dispute the transaction and the text message didn't have a phone number that I could see, it just said 'VERIFY' as the name of the person who sent the message.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
