    1800948209 - Yep my business neighbour got this after an inadvertent click in Facebook. Fortunately he called me and we rebooted the machine and everything seemed normal.

    An hour or so later neighbour actually received a call from 1800948209 saying they knew he'd had a problem. He was smart enough to tell them to rack off.

    So not only are they hoping you'll be stupid enough to call, they're hoping you're stupid enough to react when THEY call! They've obviously obtained some information from his computer and contacted him proactively, hoping to bait him that way. I've advised him to change his passwords on ANOTHER computer.

    Scammers. Number is shown on an advert popup (possibly originating from Facebook) saying that your Mac has a trojan and call this number to talk to Apple Support. You end up phoning scammers who get you to install some remote access software and they connect to your Mac and can see everything. Then they get you to check your email and get you to log into your banking (they are watching everything). Not sure what happens after that as my family member came to their senses and hung up.

    My computer locked up and told me to call Microsoft re a security breach. I rang this nymber 1800 948 209 and started to do the steps the man told me. I soon realised he was scamming when my own security kicked in and stopped him. Please beware.

    1800 948 209.

    My wife's laptop was locked and a warning given, suggesting it was from Microsoft, asking her to call 1 800 948 209. Needless to say she didn't and it would seem that no harm has been done. A full scan of system files identified no issues and after a system re-boot things seem to be normal.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
