    They said that the app needs update. DO NOT give them the code that they text you. This is being used to access your private information as a 2FA or security code for Credit Cards.

    This 1800 number is a scam number, pure and simple... It caught me out. The number appears high (sometimes at the top) on Google searches as the help desk for a range of widely used products and services. In my case it was Kayo Sports. The number also claims to serve Netflix, Stan, Optus, Disney etc. As I called them with a problem, my guard against scammers was down. Their knowledge of the Kayo product and and their use of the Kayo email service to reset my password gives the impression that you are dealing with Kayo. The claim was made that I had been overcharged for services and I was due a refund. By confirming my bank details for that refund, I actually gave access to withdraw funds. Yes, I feel stupid but the fact that I approached them, they triggered the reset email to my email address and they confirmed an overcharge that I believed to be the case when I thought I was contacting Kayo all created the illusion that I was dealing directly with the service provider. It cost me $900 so far but I am hopeful that my bank can reverse the charge. Telstra provides the 1800 number and Google provides the prominent search result. I don't believe that they are oblivious to this multi provider scam.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
