    Ramble about National Broadband Network and some concerns about sharing my IP. Did not want to provide name or how did he get my phone number. When asked politely to hang up he became agitated and threatened he will pass on my phone number to ‘everyone’ to call me as much as possible.

    Pure hacking attempt. Tried to pretend they were from Amazon, and took me through very complicated instructions to give them total control of my phone by downloading anydesk. I took them all the way through the scam to see how it would work, without actually doing any of it, and what they do is take control of your phone, then hunt around to see if you have any banking apps, then ask you for your bank details to 'refund' you money, while stealing all of it.

    Pure criminals.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
