    I do try to keep them on the line as long as possible, usually a scam call telling me my internet has been compromised and they need remote access to my computer.

    I love it when you waste their time. The longer the better. A bonus if you actually get them annoyed as possible. One less chance for them to run their scam on another victim.:)

    They did not leave any message. These days I don't answer any phone call unless they are on my list. I always check Reverse Australia and it has been very helpful.

    Accidentally left a message on my machine - very loud call centre for half a minute, before the caller suddenly said "Hello?" and hung up without leaving a further message.

    Just before 16:00 AWST received call (from 08 7092 2533) with an unidentified female saying my unidentified account was to be debited $299.99 and if I didn't object then $299.99 would be deducted from my unidentified account by e-bay as a monthly occurrence. I have never made a purchase of ANY sort on e-bay. The unidentified female caller gave 3 options including to object to the debits and also to speak to a consultant. No options were activated by me before I hung up.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
