    08 6716 7738 There was a recording asking if we have purchased something for a certain amount of money. They did not say who they were or where they were from. Waited on the line to speak to someone and then the line went dead.

    Told me someone was making a purchase in China from my eBay account, which I don't have. Tried to get me to follow some steps like going to the Play Store to download an app. They hung up after I was asking questions why I needed to go to the Play Store. Sent me a message as soon as they hung up asking me to follow other instructions.

    I returned a call from this number and a lady with an asian accent told me that someone from China logged on my eBay account and processed a gift card with my account. Upon further enquiry about who she was and what was calling for she diffused and hung up.

    Tried to call 3 more times and all different people with accent tried to tell someone oredered a gift voucher. All false.

    Upon getting more inquisitive, they hang up.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
