    Literally just activated a new mobile number and this number calls. Way too many scammers out there. I didn't answer and haven't given this number out yet. I know number recycling goes on but this is nuts.

    This is a scam, a guy named Steve calling to ask about your recent car accident. The chances are he will get someone who has had a bump and then the fun begins. DO NOT GIVE OUT YOUR DETAILS. Its a scam and praying on people who know no better.

    I keep receiving calls from this number saying I have been in an accident. They then continue to ask me to dial 1 if this is correct etc. It is a voice recording.

    I believe this to be a scam caller wanting personal information from me.

    Rang number back - said his name was Steve and the call was in relation to a 'motor vehicle accident' I was recently involved in. Total scammers! I find it amusing now how they have a male's Australian accent - to make them sound more legit?? I've had Steve call me a few times now, all from different phone numbers.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
