    Been getting regular frequent calls from these numbers lately:

    0748745245.

    0448612387.

    0748652145.

    Interspersed with that, frequent "private" numbers which I'd assume are from the same source. Never any message.

    They're either faking numbers or bought a bunch in the Nth QLD area.

    I never answer them and if I see a reference on the web (which I have for all of these) and there's no message I just block the number. Unfortunately my landline can't block "private" numbers.

    Report these to the ombudsmen so the telco that owns these number can cancel them asap. They are in breach of the terms of conditions set by the carrier. Whilst it feels good to lead them on and waste their time(I tell them hang on and I'll go and turn the computer on and just leave them waiting) it won't stop them.

    The reality is the Telcos can stop these calls however the calls they make and line rental are revenue for them. Don't expect justice from an the Indian authorities to stop criminals calling from overseas as they endorse it, It is seen in all probability as people with jobs. Perhaps otherwise they would be out gang raping helpless women and children.

    Also, have received a call last night, claiming to be from.

    'TELSTRA Technical Support' about my 'faulty Internet.

    That would need immediate investigation';.

    I asked if I could return the call and they said 'no, you can't',

    Then I said 'OK, goodbye' and hung up.

    Needless to say, an attempted scam.

    My home phone system luckily has one method.

    To alert me to such calls, but unfortuneately.

    It seems these people are not put off much by that.

    It must be an 'on-relayed' number, as I'm sure the.

    English accent was foreign (but, of course I do not know).

    Having my number on the 'DO NOT CALL' Register.

    Doesn't seem to afford protection from these sorts of.

    Calls : unsettling, as the number indeed cannot be rung back.

    (You can put the TESLTRA code before you dial back.

    To block your own number just for one call).

    A scammer. Called saying they were Telstra Technical Support and were going to shut down our internet for 3 months as the computer was downloading viruses. Called Telstra customer service to confirm it's a scam. Have called another 2 times today.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
