    Scammers pretending to be Commonwealth Bank saying it was a "verification call" to confirm whether I had authorised a payment of $800. I'm not even with Commonwealth Bank. I told them I knew it was a scam and they hung up immediately.

    Claim to be calling from Telstra and they have identified breaches in the internet to my computer or laptop and there is a bug now. Claim they will assist with removing it and they just need access remotely to the computer. Interesting l don't even have any accounts with Telstra.

    I have received so many calls, not just from this number, but others over the last 2-3 weeks. Always from Brisbane, Wagga Wagga, Canberra and many others where I don't know anyone. If they don't leave a message I just block them. Have never answered.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
