    Received a call from a man telling me he is not selling anything. Said he was calling from iCompare Australia. Told me that they were offering special offer of free financial planning advice valued at $1,200. When I asked who provides the advice he said the adviser is employed by iCompare. I asked what licensee they were licensed with ASIC, for which he could not answer. He told me they had a website www.icompareaustralia.com. Au however it was currently under review and then gave me this number to call back on. I then asked him whether it was a scam given he was unable to answer any of my questions regarding there license to provide advice. He said it wasn't but given I am a financial planner I am 99% certain it is a scam as any adviser would have to be able to provide this information and every staff member would know this as well.

    This is not a spoof number. I spoke with the employee of superannuation reviews, very helpful and friendly.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
