    Got a message this morning from 0488883959 saying they had been contacted by Homes Victoria to carry out an energy efficiency on my property with the installation of a reverse cycle aircon. Gives you a number to call 5278 7996 and of course no-one answers, but the message says that they will call you back, leave a message. I missed the return call and rang the mobile number back and surprise it isn't contactable who would have thought, I am now searching for the large hairy rat.

    As a home owner, you are entitled to a free gift. Sounds like a scam.

    Claimed I was eligible for a free Ute because I indicated I was a homeowner on a survey. I haven’t done a survey and I’m not a homeowner. Definitely a scam.

    Got a missed call and tried to call this number back and a recorded message stated that this number is no longer in service. It was only a matter of minutes from original call to the recorded message on callback. I would say this is a SCAM call.

    Potential scam/telemarketer. Hung up no message. Lots of spoof calls from mobiles staring with 0488 lately.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
