    The number 0280912168 has been sold to a scammer by an Australian Telco. It appears to originate somewhere in Sydney. It is the number supplied by a scammer using the mobile number +61484899914 to lodge your Debit/Credit card details because your account has been supposedly suspended. This is definitely not true and the number should never be used.

    The Telco would have the personal details of the scammer on record as they sold the number to them.

    The Telco has the ability to remove the number and therefore stop the scam.

    The Telco is knowingly supporting and benefitting from a criminal offence.

    Telcos in Australia who do not act to protect their customers from scammers should face huge fines and criminal proceeding. If you or I were to knowingly aid and abet a criminal activity we would face prosecution.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
