    Recieved a message saying I have an offer of a deal from my electricity provider with a link. Didn't follow link as my provider only sends through email and post. Also they never provide a link in any correspondence, as do most companies.

    Wanting me to complete a survey re my supposed experience as a Carer. Do not know anything about this. Caller used what looks like a legitimate site at Barwon Health but lists areas in Bendigo, Ballarat etc. This the second time in the last 2 years. Wants my email address or to call a 1800 number to complete this survey.

    No course completed in a heck of a long time, so it was not obviously true. DO NOT EVER REPLY TO OPT OUT from these messages as you will be telling them that your number is an active number and it will be sold to many other scammers/spammers.

    HIYA! advised as a "Potential Fraud" also. So I am blocking this number.

    I have been getting non stop spam from this number for several weeks. Each time it is advertising well known companies, but if you contact those companies, they claim to be unaware of any SMS campaign being carried out in their name. If you tried to call the number you get a message from Telstra saying that the number is disconnected. My guess is that it is actually a Skype number that was checked and approved by Skype before the service was dropped by the ISP concerned. Skype allows paid accounts to "assume" the owner's mobile number, but apparently do not check that the numbers remains a valid number in their customer's name.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
