    They called and asked if they were speaking to (insert my name). I said yes (regretting that now!) and they hung up. Clearly calling to gather information. I'm sure they'll try again and see if they can gather more info. Definitely a scammer, don't answer.

    Got a call from (03) 7067 5151 didn't answer the call as my smart showed as suspected scam. Better to avoid the new numbers and private calls.

    Trying to replace my exhaust fans (under a government initiative) for free. Indian sounding woman, lot's of background noise. Hung up quickly when I said I was on the do not call register, why are you calling me? Put the number into my blocked list anyway.

    Continues to ring. Let's it ring a few times then hangs up. I've blocked them now, but they'll probably call back from another number. Who knows what they get out of this sort of behaviour. Pains in the butt.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
