    Definitely a scam - They left a voicemail late October saying they were from ATO headquarters and they were not. They had an Indian sounding accent.

    I got a call today from a Philippino sounding man saying I had committed tax fraud and the charges were very serious. He also didn't say a name just said "you/your" and there are several people living at this address. Do not call this number back.

    2.41pm today before Melb Cup, message on my landline which otherwise never records anything these days (thanks Telstra for selling my number). This was a recorded message from a male with Asian Phillipino accent about serious tax fraud trouble with PTO(?) - Phillipine Tax Office, so I had better ring 0344103039 to sort it out. Call coming from Victoria? Report to Telstra and police.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
