    My parents received a message on their home phone last Monday 15/02 stating his name was Jason O'connor and an arrest warrant was being issued for tax evasion. We contacted our local police station who advised it was not the procedure of ATO and report accordingly.

    We were away. Our daughter got the messages on 10/2/16 in regards to tax evasion, that the matter is before Commonwealth Courts in our State and that there is a police arrest warrant to call back. His name is Jason O'Conner. She got scared. This man is a scammer. His accent sounded to me Indian. Well all our information is given to the world by our telephone pro.

    Viders!

    When I got home today (11/02/2016), there was a message recorded on my phone, the caller claimed to be from ATO regarding tax invasion matter that I should call this number before the police knocking on my door to arrest me. I am sure if I was to call them back, they would probably ask me to pay them some money via a credit card to avoid being arrest or something. How predictable this is.

    Message received on landline from a mr julian marshall claiming to be from the ato.....

    This immediately raised my suspision as I know they wouldn't just call. And he also typically avoids mentioning your name.

    Babbling on about "your tax evasion" and "having already registered a criminal case" and "be prpared to call me before the situation unfolds on you".

    Well he had better be prepared for what will unfold for him!

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
