    I received a call from this number today and will block that number immediately. Had no idea it was a scamming number.

    DNC list isn't an actual blocking thing at the telco, the DNC is just a list, literally a CSV file, the government sends around to anyone who wants it and wants to know who to NOT call. There are legal penalties for AUSTRALIAN companies who call people on it. As for overseas companies, they can safely ignore it.

    I blocked this number and the next time they rang, the lady said it was a Federal Government job/ course provider. She asked if I was an Australian citizen, and I said that she would be privy to that if she were in fact from Federal Government. I asked how she got my number and said I was on the DO Not Call list and could get through anyway. I asked where she was based, and she said the HQ was in Melbourne, and she was calling from Manilla, Philippines. I promptly hung up phone and went to block it, only to discover it is blocked already. Why could this number still get through being blocked by me and also me being on DO Not Call List? So now I have this number in my phone under contacts as Blocked Number Philippines so I know not to answer.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
