    Scam caller with Indian accent, appears to be calling from Wagga Wagga, purporting to be from Commonwealth Bank. I don't have an account with Comm Bank, and even if I did, why would they call from Wagga Wagga of all places? Definitely a number to block.

    This number seems to try and scam everything. It just rang me and I got an automated message saying it was eBay and I was getting a $500 dollar charge on my account and if I thought it was wrong that I could talk to a customer representative to sort out the problem. Obviously I just hung up and blocked the number.

    Call only and fortunately I did not see it come through. But seems to be a part of the daily ritual whomever the marketeer or supreme nuisance employs. I do not usually get National Broadband Network calls - usually AMAZON. Thanks peeps for all the heads up - it seems to be the usual.

    Got a call today they said (very heavy hindi accents) they were from Amazon about my subscription. I didn't have one, then they proceed to abuse me and try to get me to fill out forms and then claimed I made an error and that $10.000 went into my account from them. For another hour they were trying to get details out of me and make me pay money back via Amazon Gift Cards. They threatened to have all my bank accounts closed and refer this issue to the Australian Taxation office for recovery. They kept talking over me and were so demeaning and agonistic. They didn't get a cent out of me but at least I wasted 2hrs of their time.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
