    We had a message reporting to be from the tax office and that legal action was to be taken against us if we didn't call back on this number.

    I had a message left on my answering machine from this number today claiming they were from the ATO and that a law suite had been registered against me for tax evasion and tax fraud and to ring them back on 02 6152 8699 or suffer the legal consequences. I knew it was a scam when they said "God bless" at the end.

    I had a very fake sounding call also claiming to be from the ato. Rang number and it was only a generic voice mail. Sounds like a scam.

    Noted as a scam number left on our answering machine claiming to be from the "tax department", has been reported to the official ATO phone line.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
