He threatened that they owed $85.000 in tax evasion, but said that if my mum paid $120 immediately today, they wouldn't send the federal police around and would advise the ATO that my parents would eventually pay. He didn't ask for my parents by name, only address - and said he would send someone around with documentation for both my parents to sign and eventually pay. My mum switched on and knew it must not be legit & hung up. THESE PEOPLE ARE SCAMMERS AND THE ATO AND POLICE KNOW OF THEM. DO NOT GIVE ANY DETAILS. PLEASE ADVISE ANY ELDERLY FAMILY MEMBERS, as this caller really scared my mum.
I am in QLD have received 2 calls from so called JOHN MATHEWS on 02 61528690 and also on 0261403480 both telling me I owe the ATO a lot of money but not asking for me in person have rung the police.
Just got a call and they left a message from ATO: 02 61528690. His name he claimed was John Matthews (I think) saying I have been issued a court summons and that I should seek a lawyer for tax evasion. Only caught the last part of the message.
Hi got a call Monday15/6/15 from some guy on voice mail claiming to be from the tax department said to ring him back that I was in some sort of trouble which I know is wrong because my advisor handles all my money when she tried to ring him back the phone just rang out told me it was a scam and should not worry so my best advise is to ignore it.
Claiming to be from the ATO and demanding a large amount of money otherwise warrant for arrest and take us to prison. etc.

I had a voice message from "John Matthews" telling me that the ATO needed to talk to me and to my attorney re tax evasion!
He said he was from the ATO.
I'm sure he is a scammer, especially reading the comments on this page.
