They quoted a batch number and told me that they have registered a legal petition for a criminal case involving tax evasion and tax fraud. They said it was important I call them back as it was time sensitive. After searching this phone number on Google, I just found several comments about this scam. Thank you for sharing!

I just received a call from this number in an answering machine concerning about the a tax fraud and asked to contact ATO ASAP or serious consequences may have to face. By reading all those messages I surely think this is a scam!! Be be aware.
Hi I have received a call from a similar person who left a message on our home answering machine requesting we call them back urgently on 0261528680 relating to a tax fraud issue that the ATO was investigating. I spoke to our accountant who was unaware of such an issue and said to ignore the call as it was likely to be a scam. Which certainly seems to be the case, looking at these other comments made online when l Googled this number. Be Careful!!!!

Had a message to call this number - a guy named Jason OConnor - regarding Tax and Immigration Evasion. A foreign man, requested that I pay $65.000 by the end of the week or spend 5 years in jail. And advised that the police would be on my door step within the hour to arrest me. Sounds extremely similar to scams on the scamalert page. Be aware.....

We received a message on our answering machine saying exactly the same thing as mentioned in earlier posts about tax fraud.
I thought it was weird that it didn't say a name and seemed very generic so googled the number!
