    I had the same phone call today saying it was Jason O'Connor from ATO. Same as scam/fraud below. Clearly a foreign accent. I was on my answering machine and I checked immediately on this number and found many other complaints. If ATO, one would certainly get a letter first. Clearly fraudulent or scam and they are using multiple names over a period of time. How can this kind of call come through when I have do not phone registered?

    Received a message on my home phone today saying it was Jason O'Connor from ATO re tax evasion & that local police had a warrant for my arrest. This was the number left for me to call back & when I did it said the call could not be connected. He had an Indian or some sort of Asian accent.

    Had an automated call with a recording from 'Jason O'Connor' asking me to call 02 6152-8660 about pending legal action / police visit regarding a tax debt. I called the number back (turned my call send feature off) and asked the dude whether his mother would be proud. And was he bringing honour on the family name. That sort of shit is sure to mess with the subcontinental mind.

    Received a phone call today, from someone called Brian Allen from the Australian Crime Commission chasing an unpaid tax debt.

    The man on the phone had a distinctive Pakistani or Indian accent.

    Person claimed that they had sent a couple of letters regarding an unpaid tax debt and that the Australian Taxation Office had forwarded your details to the Australian Crime Commission.

    Clearly a fraudulent phone call.

    Had the same call twice, using names Damat/Dennis (hard to understand). Also called themselves Steve Martin and Brian Lincoln. Very aggressive and call back if you hang up thinking they sound convincing.. Always claim to be Aus Crimes Commission with complaint from ATO or fed gov.

    They left a message with my wife claiming to be Ryan Lincoln from the ATO and that I should contact them asap. When I called back reluctantly it sounded like a call center and the person on the other line mumbled where they were from so I asked which company they worked for and he said "Sir this is a government department. What is your name?"... After a bit more questioning from me it was clear this was a scam.. So I hung up.

    Similar to above. Got the call today from a "Dumat" saying he was from the ACC (heavily accented male, could have been Pakistani). I hung up. He called back and left a message saying the ATO had sent me a letter but got no reply, so they'd passed the case on to the Aust Crime Commission. To avoid legal action I should call them ASAP.

    I called back. Another male, similar accent. Needed my phone number as a reference and then repeated the above.

    I asked if this was a joke, thought their approach was bizarre, asked why they hadn't contacted my accountant, etc.

    They said I could expect a visit tomorrow from two federal officers!

    Brian Allen called saying he was from the Australian Crime Commission saying my physical address was under investigation. I hung up and he called back and left a message to call this number he even gave a case file number. His english seemed good but the accent was strong. The call was from a "Private Number" and It is suspicious.

    Rec'd call from a man calling himself Officer Chris Bray (or Grey) saying he was from the Australian Crime Commission in Canberra. He advised "a case has been filed against you, and this address is under federal investigation. Before we proceed with any legal action, you need to contact me asap on 02 6153 8660" The man had an Irish/British accent and knew my surname but got the title wrong. DO NOT RESPOND - call the REAL Aust Crime Comm in Canberra, to check if in doubt.

    Same modus operandi.

    Caller was Chester Benn, Senior Seargent with the Aust. Crime Commission, and demanded immediate payment otherwise I would be arrested for not paying a tax reassessment.

    Recieved 2 calls from this number.

    A man with strong Asian accent saying he's from Australian Crime Commission, and our address is under investigation. We need to call back directly on 02 61528660 to speak to him about this.

    The first call mentioned my husband's name. The following day he called with the same message for my name.

    Strongly suspicious. Didn't call back. We do not have issues, so it has to be a scam.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
