    Received a call on my answering machine today 22nd July 2016. A very abrupt male with an accent, said he was from the Investigation Division, which was a sub division of the Taxation Office. He was calling in regards to tax fraud and evasion and I needed to call him back immediately on his Direct Divisional line phone no.0261528627. He then went on to say if I didn't call, a legal warrant for my arrest would be issued so it was extremely important I called straight back.............. Then my answering machine cut off. What a fool!!!

    Received a call from this number from a male with an American accent who made claims of warrants etc. When challenged he became very abusive and threatening. Avoid dealing with this character at all cost... It is yet another elaborate phone scam.

    Just received a threatening message claiming to be from the Australian Tax Office. A male with American accent said legal action would be taken if the call wasn't returned. Mentioned something about tax fraud being committed. I see this number showing up on several websites with others describing the very same thing.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
