    Same happened to me today. Said they were the ATO, something about non compliance, and a warrant for my arrest.

    I see most of these reviews on this number are 3 years old, however I got a call today and they left an automated voice message saying to call them back as they have filed a law suit under my name... Definately a scam.

    Same thing with me. I received the phone call this afternoon and they agressively told me that I needed to settle this matter immediately unless I wanted it to go to court. I asked him to send me the documentation and he said he wasn't going to send me any more documents as he has already tried. Needless to say we got into a heated discussion and he hung up on me. To date, I have called them back 33 times and counting... Just to rile them up a bit. Bad move to call with their ID... ;).

    Called ATO and reported scam, must be voice over internet hacking. Not sure how they can defraud here, the voice message stated Australian Tax Department (Office???) and so fast could not get the number, except for my caller id. Always contact ATO on 132861. Do not send money double check and check again. Google the number, call people you know and ask before reaching for your wallet.

    Received a call from this number at 13:25 this afternoon. Automated robot voice. As soon as it said 'Australia Tax Department' I hung up and Googled the number.

    The number is loosely affiliated with a bunch of domain name registrations under the name Mark Babic, with a Canberra address.

    The ACMA ([link] tells me the number is allocated to a company called Symbio Networks Pty Ltd, based in Sydney.

    I have called Symbio and advised them that the customer operating that number appears to be making, or having calls made purporting to be them, of a fraudulent and illegal nature.

    They appear to not be able to do anything about it. But if anyone would like to speak with their upstream phone provider, Symbio Networks are the people to speak with.

    02 6100 3068 just called me as well! I answered the phone with my first name and business name - they hung up saying nothing. I did listen to a caller on radio 2GB a couple of days ago chatting about this scam... So I'm connecting the dots. I hope this helps others, thank you for your comments above, it's reassuring.

    Received a call from this number claiming they are an ATO agent and asking for my criminal lawyer details as I have been reported to have tax fraud, etc...

    I asked the guy to verify that he is from the ATO, then he shut up.

    Same...

    Suspecting the call to be a cold call I remained silent to confuse the auto-dialer, eventually an American sounding very robotic voice told me the ATO is looking for me in relation to tax fraud.

    I called the number back and asked for their specific address when they asked me mine - needless to say they hung up!

    I called the ATO - and informed them of this activity. They informed me that I have no current taxation issues :) and that this was indeed a scam call from 02 6100 3068.

    Yep - got a call from this number in an electronic voice also letting me know my tax number was being fraudulently used and to call them back soon or I would face a legal mess. Honestly these guys must be sucking some people in - everyone knows that the ATO doesn't do these things - although I wonder how they got my details? Yay - another waste of VOIP resources - can the ACMA or ACCC get these numbers and owners prosecuted? Just ignore the calls.

    I just got a call from this number - same scam (ATO message saying I owe them money). I knew it wasn't because the ATO would never leave a message like that, so I looked it up and came here.

    I tried to make a fraud complaint to Telstra who (eventually) said they'd investigate it, when the guy almost completed the call, I asked how he could investigate it without knowing the number, then he said "Oh, actually I can't trace numbers from here, you'll need to call our billing team to do that". I thanked him and hung up - clearly Telstra couldn't care less.

    No wonder Australia is a popular scam destination.

    Received a call from 02 6100 3068 - scam artists. Queried the alleged debt they calimed I had with the real ATO immediately and gave them the scammers details and phone number.

    They try to get you to give them your criminal attorney's details / try to get you to arrange a time to meet with someone to discuss your debt and transfer amounts aver $2000 to them via the post office.

    If you get a call from this number, goto the ATO website, get the real phone number from that and call them instead.

    It is easy to get angry, but I would suggest you consider having a little fun with these people in whatever way best reflects your personality. For legal reasons I would like to clarify that I am not encouraging any illegal behaviour.

    Yes. It's a scam. Got a call from a Sydney number 02 6100 3068 and an American electronic voice says that I need to call the ATO on this number for outstanding taxes or face a fine. Of course, I knew it was a sham so, being laid up with the flu and tired of staring at the ceiling, I thought I'd spice up my day.

    I called up. A man with a Filipino accent answered. 'Australian Tax Office. How can I help you?'.

    'This isn't the Australian Tax Office,' I said. 'Who are you really?'.

    'F*k you, motherf*ker!' He replied and hung up.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
