    Believe very same perpetrator who called me in Jan/Feb 2017 using prerecorded message, of American origin, has called me today... Exactly same wording and American accent informing me due to unpaid taxes a warrant had been issued for my arrest... Blocked last number from Jan/Feb 2017 and todays number (02) 6100 3014... ATO will use actual people to make contact and will usually send official correspondence not call you... Rule of law and due process dictates you must also have right of response with unpaid taxes and be given an opportunity to redress unpaid taxes with a reasonable time to repay. Reported this scam to ATO... What an absolute muppet!!

    My wife took the same call... She hung up but we can all imagine an older person being terrified about the possible consequences. If they manage to call me I will ask them for $50K to provide them with (false) names and phone numbers of my friends who will pay because they are already in trouble with the tax office☻...might start with Mr Michael Cranston's number !!

    I got a call from this number pretending to be someone from the ATO. They told me my house was under surveillance and they had an affidavit against me and unless I called them back, they would start legal proceedings.

    I rang my accountant who confirmed the ATO did not have my number on their file.

    This is a scam and they are trying to get personal information from you. Don't answer and don't provide any details to them. Hang up and report the scam to the ATO.

    Call to my mobile on 18 May.2017 at 9.53 am from 02 6100 3014 - a recorded message saying they were the Tax Office and I was under investigation and my house was under surveillance and I had to ring their number straight back and various other information (I didn't ring back). We live in the country and it would be easy to see if someone was using surveillance on our house as we are on a farm on a country road in NSW.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
