    Just had a call. The caller claimed her name was Ellie despite a thick Indian accent. Claimed to be from Telstra and asked if I had been having internet issues recently, which I had so thought it was legit. Asked me to do a speed test, which I did, but they then wanted me to download remote access software on my computer. I then called her out on it, at which point she terminated the call. Scam!

    Claimed to be from Telstra and that he understood there was internet issues in your area. Obviously a call from a call centre. Asked me to run a speed test at which time I just hung up. Would expect that they'd be looking for personal details.

    Heavy Indian accent. Said something about violating some federal law or something of sort. Very obvious they were reading off a script. I hung up the call right away. I usually avoid picking up any scam calls like this but I get about 10 a day along with text messages. Very annoying.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
