    Got a call with a computer generated automated message saying that they were from the ATO and will be suing me if I didn't call back on the number.

    BS. If the ATO wanted to contact me they can use a real person. But in this case, I'm sure it is a scammer.

    These scammers need to be dealt with firmly to send a message to potential scammers in the future.

    Is this a scam? They rang me left a voicemail message that I was going to be arrested LOL I am pretty sure it's scam unless they have the wrong person but I really doubt someone who is charged to be arrested will be receiving phone calls from an unknown number and someone who doesn't leave a company name or person name. I just can't help but slight worry though.

    Just got a call from this number today (Thursday Nov 15th 2018) at 12.08pm.

    Automated call, American accent, something about myself being involved in cases being looked into by the ATO. . . and if I don't call back to a number with a reference number, there will be an arrest warrant issued against me.

    Knew this was a scam, and I had a chuckle - but this may scare some people!

    I just received a missed call from this number. They left a message stating "The Last Suitcase(?) is getting filed under your name. The moment you get this message I want you to get back to me on my department division number 24017.

    I rang the number and was answered with a very heavily accented "Hello, This is the investigation department of the Australian taxation office.".

    I said " This is a scam isn't it? " and the call was hung up.

    Beware of the scam. I have contacted the ATO and advised of this.

    Received call on my mobile this morning from 024010228. I didn't answer as it is an out of state number and not recognized. Immediately I received a message on my mobile. It was the legit message format from 101 saying Call "101" you have 1 new Voice message. I pressed th "101" and instead of getting the usual female voice saying you have no new messages I got a deep American voice saying if I didn't call this number then I will be arrested. I called Telstra to report a scam but they weren't interested to help.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
