    A cold call from a gentleman with a British English accent asking to send out information on a market trading scheme.

    I politely declined a few times but decided to draw the line when he started getting vulgar. After one last mini-tirade he elected to hang up which suited me just fine as I had work to get on with.

    Number now blocked.

    PS: From when I answered the call, there was quite a delay suggesting they're using an agent callback service, in which case if you get this large delay (around 7 seconds in my case), I'd recommend hanging up as it'll be the same scenario as I had.

    Man with British accent called asking for someone I know and that he had a personal invitation for them. Said it was confidential. Wouldn't disclose who they were or where they were calling from other than Sydney. Said they'd call back I swore at him and hung up. Called number and it was disconnected. It's a scam. Only concern is that they used the name of someone I know.

    Some sort of sales call ('Easy' something?) from a heavily accented man in a noisy environment. Said I was at work so can't talk, he kept talking trying to offer me something. I politely said thanks but I'm not interested and can't talk so he just hung up on me. Nice.

    Received a call from 02 83192205 today (13/02/17) at 4.30PM. The male said his name was Michael Anderson & he knew my first name. The line was very bad and we were disconnected. I tried to call him back but it said the line was not connected.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
