    How can you get them to stop calling when the number when you ring cannot be connected? Impossible. Can't this line be terminated in some way by those in authority?

    3 calls in 2 days from this number which has coincided with contact I've made with Telstra about a broadband problem. The calls have each come within an hour of my calls to the genuine Telstra people (Philippinos). The callers have an Indian accent, claim they are from Telstra and offered to talk me through my (non-existent) computer problem. If I don't do this they said my Telstra account will be cancelled. HOAX.

    Received a call from an Indian sounding lady and ID number 07 48652145 who tried to say there was an issue with my internet through Telstra. I said I was not through Telstra but if there was a problem I would contact my ISP. She tried to say everything goes through Telstra in Australia - She said unless I did something with her today today the service would cease tomorrow - I said that she was a scammer and what she was telling me was crap and I would refer the allegations to my ISP and she then hung up abruptly.

    Similar experience from 0748652145. Indian sounding voice. Said he was a Telstra Technician and that we were being hacked and would guide me through a process on my PC. Asked for a name and number and gave me a 1300 number that was not telstra. Name he gave me was a Facebook friend.

    Had numerous calls from this number. Asian voice says they are from Telstra and my computer is about to crash within 24 hours, ...but they can help me if I just turn on my computer and do a few easy steps with them. I told them I am not with Telstra and He said it doesn't matter who your service provider is, Telstra controls everything in Australia. They ask if I'm Mrs Bell, and I inform them I'm not but they still proceed with the internet scam. So sick of them now I thought it might be funny to pretend to be Mrs Bell, they asked my first name and I said Ding A Ling, they continued to try and get me to go to my computer and I said I will get my husband, they asked his name and I said Alarm. The hung up. Now they just ring and hang up 3-5 times a day.

    The caller said he was from Telstra Support and that he was calling about my internet connection. I told him I would report him to the Federal Police.

    I have had numerous calls per day for about the last 5 days. They call when I'm out often and never leave a message and I just don't answer when I see the number come up on my phone, but it's quite annoying to have the phone ringing so much for no valid purpose.

    Said he was from Optus, in Melbourne. But coulkdn't tell me what time it was in Melbourne until a few minutes later, about the time it takes me to type in 'time Melbourne' Wouldn't spell his name or tell me his phone number. Not of English origin, extremely hard to understand, wouldn't spell his name, just kept repeating something when I repeatedly asked him to spell his name. Tried talking over me when I wouldn't proceed past his name. A scam? Reckon!

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
