    Definitely not a scam. Got the text message about a suspicious transaction. The last four digits of the card number were correct. I rang my bank and they confirmed the problem and the block on the card. If you get this message, ring your bank's card fraud number without delay.

    I first thought this was a scam, then while considering to call St George bank, they called me. The transactions are being investigated, cards to be replaced, and our money refunded.

    So, not a scam in this case.

    This is a real Westpac SMS text. Call your bank immediately. Use listed phone numbers if unsure. I replied No and dialed the bank. I got a ring back from the text reply first. They had to change my Mastercard due to 2 unauthorised overseas transactions.

But when I went to call back this number, it said the numberr has been disconnected, so yes, I believe its a definitely A scam!

    Hello everyone. I just called Westpac about this and they confirmed its genuine. Apparently text messages that have links in them are scams but this one isn't. If you are unsure yiu can call westpac yourself and verify.

    Not a scam. I could not see any suspicious transaction mentioned in the text message but I called Westpac to double check and they confirmed there was an attempt and the transaction has been blocked.

    I thought this was a scam, however this is a legitimate number used by Westpac to advise of fraudulent transactions. I rang Westpac who confirmed this and have cancelled my card.

    This is 100% a scam! If it was from Westpac, it would say 'Call Westpac on 13xxxx', not 'Call us back on this random number'. It's simple to check - JUST LOOK AT YOUR ACCOUNT. The people here saying 'It's legit' ARE THE SCAMMERS.

    I thought it was a scam but this really was Westpac. I’m appreciative that they put a block on my card due to suspected fraudulent activity. Now waiting for new card.

    I thought this was suspicious but saw a comment here saying it was legitimate. Nothing was showing on my account online. I called the bank from the number on my statement and it is true. I'm waiting to speak to fraud now and my card has been blocked.

    I just received a text, checked my bank and the details were correct. Rang St George customer service, the text is legit. NEVER click on a link, it's the "text yes or no" message from this number. Bank of Melbourne, St George and Westpac all under the same company. Random $70 charge they have to wait til moved from pending to dispute. If they didn't text, I'd never notice.

    Not a fraud. Our Westpac cc have now been cancelled and new ones issued. I called Westpac myself. Don't trust the comments saying it's a fraud. Plenty here confirming it's not. I wouldn't have answered the call though - I called the number on Westpac website. Just call your bank, easier than guessing.

    A lot of guesses in the responses here. I received a text, checked my account, responded to the text, called westpac (that is the origin of this text and number). Westpac confirmed the text, the transaction and acknowledged my earlier response. Don’t comment here unless you are certain of your facts.

    It's legit. Got a SMS to say block placed on card for transaction of $0.00. reply yes if genuine or reply no if fraud. I checked online banking and no alerts but there's a Facebook post on Westpac page that it could be legit as it's not asking to click on links. So replied no. Got a reply to say the block will remain and a fraud officer will call me in 60 minutes. I logged back online to temporarily block my card just in case and I saw the card in question has already been blocked. So it legit. Don't ignore it. Check with bank or if out of hours, temporarily block the card on internet banking.

    Yes, it's legit. Got this EARLY in the morning as others have reported, so these transactions may be the one that "ping" the bank's fraud algorithms more often.

    When the call came through from a Sydney number I was *not* asked *any* personal details, only if the transaction was legit (no) and that they would send me new cards in the mail to the address the bank already had., The card was shut down immediately.

    If they had asked me to confirm any personal detail apart from my first name I would have said, "you're the bank, its on your computer, don't ask me".

    This was a genuine alert from Westpac. I rang them on their 132032 number and they cancelled my card because it has been compromised. I checked my account online when I received the text alert and then I transferred money off the card. Transaction showed the hackers tried to take '$0.00' and Westpac explained that's how hackers test if your card is active or has a balance before accessing it for funds the next time. So now they're sending me a new card which will arrive within 5 days. Make sure to ring Westpac on 132 032 to sort it out.

    I received the same text... Unfortunately it is legit. Just call your bank back in office hours or go online and put your credit/debit card on hold until you can sort it out.

    Westpac fortunately picked up on the unusual transactions pretty quick cause they tried several times with increasing amounts. You’ll have to launch a case with the fraud dept but they’re pretty good at returning any unauthorised funds within a couple of weeks.

    Pretty annoying though at the time I know...

    Best of luck.

    Jack.

    Got a call from (02) 98454000 followed by an SMS from 0429933739.

    I did not reply back due to personal concerns about their authenticity.

    I rang Westpac back on their official phone number found on their webpage and checked it out.

    Yes my credit card was compromised. Had it blocked. Will be getting a new one. (Quite recently my credit card statement letter went missing. The crooks probably took it).

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
