    I received a job offer for a Financial Assistant from hrmanager@ast-finance.org who was going by the names of Derek Lott. Apparently, they got my contacts from my profile on www.indeed.com.au. The whole process was shady, irregular and suspicious right from the start. The pay was so enticing ($4.000/month) for a 20hrs work week. Further to that, the job description had little (if anything) to do with finance or accounting. It was more to do with collecting payments from customers, data entry and record keeping. I did some research and found out that they actually have no physical offices in Sydney or anywhere in Australia. Their website in Finland looks legit [link] but raises so many red flags. Lastly, no one picks up the phone when you call their Sydney contact 02 80915348. I advise all job seekers to be careful not to give out your personal details before doing some research on any company.

    Received an email from this address (with contact details listing this number) regarding a financial assistant position in Australia.

    As stated previously, it seems like a phishing attack at best and at worst, it appears to be a money laundering scheme to legally get money out of Australia via members of the public rather than businesses or financial institutions.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
